Levitan Isaak Ilyich (1860-1900)
Russian artist, master of "landscape of mood", academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts. Repeatedly he came to the Vladimir province (the village of Gorodok of the Pokrov uyezd). Here, in 1892, he painted the famous picture "Vladimirka" and other 17 canvases, on which the nature of the "Levitan's places" on the Vladimir land is imprinted. In 2008, in the village of Eliseikovo in Petushki district, the House of Landscape and the Museum named after I.I. Levitan were opened. In 2010 a monument to a great landscape painter (sculptor I. Chernoglazov) was erected. Annually in August in the village of Eliseikovo, the festival of arts is held – Levitan Festival.
