Prokurorov Alexey Alexeevich (1964-2008)
Soviet and Russian skier, Olympic champion and world champion, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, honorary citizen of the city of Vladimir. He was born in the village Mishino, Murom district, Vladimir region. He started skiing from the age of 12, and at the age of 18 he became a member of the junior national team. For the first time, Alexey Prokurorov declared himself at the Universiade in 1985, where he won gold, silver and bronze medals. In 1988 he became the champion and silver medalist of the Olympic Games in Calgary for skiing. Totally participated in five Olympic Games, twice (1998, 2002) was the banner-bearer of the Russian national team. In 2006 he was appointed the senior coach of the Russian national women's skiing team. He perished in a traffic accident in 2008 in Vladimir. The annual ski marathons are held in Vladimir dedicated to the memory of Prokurorov.
